Continued From Brag Book
When Gene became a teen he needed a bass player in his band so he recruited me to play for him. Gene had me performing in the Carson City, NV. Area. I found myself learning songs like "We built this city on Rock and Roll" and Elton Johns "I guess that's why they call it the blues" and a bunch of others, sometimes I'd feel a little odd playing for a high school crowed, but I was having a lot of fun trying to keep up with my son. Needless to say I have always been proud of the musician Gene turned out to be. Gene has always caught me off guard at times with the unexpected. One time he called me from Nashville and said, "Dad, do you remember when you use to take me to work with you when you use to work radio?" I said Yea, "Well we're going to be performing in the New England area, and a lot of your relatives will be coming to the concerts. So I thought it would be real cool if you could come to work with me this time, and see what life is like on the road." I thought to myself you got to be kidding. |
![]() A time I'll never forget. The guys were playing computer Baseball and Football on the way and I thought they took their games about as serious as their music. Collin flew into Boston and made me feel very welcome. We all had some good talks and told a lot of jokes and just had a fun time together. I don't think Geno could have a better boss to work for. It was great for me to see all the relatives back east, one of my uncles said he'd like to jump on the bus with us , he later came out to visit with me in California, after that the bus went south to Conn. then north again to Maine. Gene and I took a plane back to Nashville after the tour. It was one of those spare of the moment, unplanned vacations that turn out to be one of the best times I ever experienced. By this time I was missing Geno's mom and took a plane back home to Linda. |
